Stories about us
These themes are particularly relevant to the 17-25 age group, but will also appeal to a wider audience who will find familiar situations.
The idea for a book of this kind came because we have observed and heard that the disease, which evolves in an unpredictable and progressive way, is a constant source of questioning for those affected, particularly teenagers and young adults. Already concerned by the difficulties encountered by younger people in dealing with vitiligo, we have held several « Youth Talk » sessions over the past few months, in order to listen to their doubts and suggestions.
Through this comic strip, Association Française du Vitiligo continues its mission to inform, support and represent vitiligo patients and those around them. Indeed, « Vitiligo and us… » is a way to feel less alone when faced with a diagnosis… even if initial reactions may be mixed with anger, incomprehension or dismay.
Nevertheless, the tone of the dialogues is reassuring and sympathetic, but not maudlin.
A comic by and for vitiligo patients
The stories presented in « Vitiligo and us… » were chosen and thought up by a group of young student volunteers from Association Française du Vitiligo, under the guidance of 2 clinical psychologists who contributed their experience and insights. Pr Julien Seneschal of Bordeaux University Hospital, a member of our Scientific Committee, has also written several inserts and information pages for vitiligo patients and their families.
The comic strip is available online for free on our website, and can be consulted in printed form in dermatology practices and hospital dermatology departments…
- Learn about vitiligo and get some helpful tips,
- Understand and even internalize the impact of vitiligo on patients and their families,
- Help to establish a dialogue that can sometimes be difficult when the disease first presents itself or is diagnosed.
It is therefore also a tool for information and dialogue between healthcare staff and patients, enabling information and reflection to be extended beyond the places where the comic book is physically available.
« Vitiligo and us… » comic book was supported by YourComics visual communications agency, translated by Makma agency and numerous partners: Abbvie, Incyte Dermatology, Leo, Les laboratoires Pierre Fabre, Pfizer and Servier.
