Anglais Our comic book “Vitiligo and Us… Volume 2”: Growing Up, Accepting Ourselves, and Moving Forward Together
Following the success of the first volume, “Vitiligo and Us… Volume 2” marks a new milestone by addressing a key moment in life: the transition to adulthood.
Created by a dedicated working group from the French Vitiligo Association (AFV) —comprising both young adults and senior members—in close collaboration with two psychologists, this collaborative graphic novel offers a sincere, deeply human, and compassionate perspective on living with the vitiligo. Through its characters, it thoughtfully explores the challenges and doubts, while highlighting the resources that help people move forward.

The Transition to Adulthood: Between Challenges and Self-Acceptance
In this second volume, readers are reunited with the characters Juliette and Maxime at a critical turning point. Education, career choices, and romantic relationships—all of these major milestones challenge their sense of self and how they navigate the gaze of others.
Vitiligo is always present, but it does not define the characters. It is part of their daily lives and shapes their thoughts, without ever limiting their aspirations. The book demonstrates that self-acceptance is a journey—sometimes complex, but always achievable.
The arrival of a new character, Medhi, who was recently diagnosed, sheds additional light on the story. Many readers will be able to relate to his questions, doubts, and initial struggles with how others perceive him. His journey illustrates the early stages of this process, which are often marked by a lack of understanding, but also by a search for guidance and community.
The Power of Sharing and Solidarity
At the heart of this comic book are, core values: solidarity, active listening, and kindness. The interactions between the characters play a central role.
They allow the characters to put their emotions into words, gain perspective on difficult situations, and, above all, prove that sharing experiences is a powerful catalyst for personal growth. Step by step, each character develops their own path, manage their anxieties, and begins to look toward the future with greater confidence.
Accessible deeply mooving, this work is intended for a broad audience: individuals living with vitiligo, their loved ones, as well as healthcare and education professionals. It reminds us that, despite periods of uncertainty, it is possible to look to the future, build relationships, make choices, and thrive.
With “Vitiligo and Us… Volume 2” the French Vitiligo Association continues its commitment to give a voice to those living with the condition and provide practical tools to help us better understand, share experiences, and move forward together.
